About CUBS
The Credit Union for Berkeley Students, (CUBS) is the only financial institution on the UC Berkeley campus.
CUBS is the child branch of a larger credit union, the Cooperative Center Federal Credit Union (CCFCU).
We cater to UC Berkeley students, student groups/organizations, faculty and staff, but also serve members of CCFCU.
The Student Financial Advisory Committee (SFAC), a student organization, runs CUBS with oversight of CCFCU.
Credit Unions vs. Banks
Like banks, credit unions offer financial services to businesses and individuals.
A credit union’s has no shareholders to please with high profits. Ownership of a credit union falls to its customers, referred to by credit unions as members.
Credit unions are not-for profit, so there is no reason to charge ridiculously high fees.
Credit unions typically limit their membership to a specific population, such as a geographic area, employer, or university affiliation.
Credit unions and banks are both federally insured, but credit unions are typically more conservative in how they invest money and offer loans.
